19. Låpsley, “Operator (DJ Koze’s Disco Edit)”
When I saw Låpsley perform at Osheaga this past summer, while I liked what I heard, I was wishing the UK singer would be a little less rigid onstage. The same goes for her album, which had its share of moments but needed more of a pulse. Thanks to a young fella named DJ Koze, however, “Operator” was transformed from a torch song to a gorgeous house ballad, which brings out the Tracey Thorn quality of Låpsley’s voice and shows how with a little more window dressing a good song can become a great one.
